University of Mary Washington Divest from Fossil Fuels

Divest UMW's holdings from fossil fuels in 5 years of less.

Why is this important?

It is imperative that we safeguard the Earth in every way possible so that future generations have a hospitable planet on which to live. Because of fossil fuel exploitation, mountaintops are being removed to extract coal, underground water is exposed to fracking chemicals/agents, and our seas have been the scene of numerous oil spills. These activities must not continue to degrade the planet and the climate. Alternative energy sources should be utilized to their fullest extent and new sources of energy discovered or invented. Divesting in fossil fuels allows for investing in energy activities that will promote a healthy planet, healthy climate, and healthy species of all kinds.
