DIVEST CAL POLY FROM FOSSIL FUELS

DIVEST CAL POLY FROM FOSSIL FUELS

1. Immediately freeze any new investments in fossil fuels.
2. Divest from direct ownership and any commingled funds that include fossil fuel public equities and corporate bonds within 5 years with an immediate divestment from coal and tarsands.

Why is this important?

Fossil fuel divestment takes the fossil fuel industry to task for its culpability in the climate crisis. By naming this industry’s singularly destructive influence and by highlighting the moral dimensions of climate change we hope that the fossil fuel divestment movement can help break the hold that the fossil fuel industry has on our economy and our governments. Fossil fuels continue to be a bad financial choice as well. We recognize that Cal Poly cannot create a future for their students while also supporting this destructive industry.

Reasons for signing

  • Universities shouldn't be investing in assets that harm future generations.
  • I believe in the power of Poly students to change our future; to find the way forward. Glad to hear Poly is going solar over the next 20 years - hope they can speed up the process!
  • Our carbon footprint is already warming the climate....105 degree in Templeton right now!
