Divest City of Moreland's banking

We the undersigned call upon the City of Moreland to commit to changing its banking practices. The Commonwealth Bank’s funding of fossil fuel projects is helping to secure a dangerous future for our planet. For future banking tenders, the City of Moreland should set firm policies that it will only work with banks that are not funding Fossil Fuel projects.

Why is this important?

At the end of 2012 the City of Moreland became the third council in Australia to become Carbon Neutral in its operations. However the bank City of Moreland uses, the Commonwealth Bank - is investing billions in fossil fuel projects around Australia that intend to operate for decades to come.
This is not compatible with a safe future for our planet as the bank's activities will lead to emissions that will dwarf the City's carbon reduction efforts many times over.

Reasons for signing

  • Because when the government refuses to act on climate change we just need to vote with our feet.
  • This has the potential to slow or stop the investment in fossil fuels. It has my support.
  • Actions speak louder than words.
