Divest St Paul's School from Fossil Fuels

Divest St Paul's School from Fossil Fuels

We, concerned alumni, students, faculty and parents, urge the Rector and Trustees of St Paul's School to responsibly divest endowment funds from the top 100 publicly traded, most offending CO2 emitting coal companies as soon as possible. As soon as possible, thereafter, divest from all remaining fossil fuel producing companies and reinvest in alternative green renewable energy.

Why is this important?

Because it is unconscionable to pay for our education with investments that will condemn the planet to climate disaster, and because our continued investments in fossil fuels violates both our School's founding Statement and our basic belief in goodness with knowledge, we call on St Paul's School to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies, and to divest within one year from direct ownership and from any commingled funds that include fossil-fuel public equities and corporate bonds. We would prefer to divest responsibly in top 100 polluters first.

How it will be delivered

We are aspiring to present the trustees with both a long list of electronically collected signatures as well as a reinvestment plan as soon as we reach 500 electronic signatures*. Please sign our petition!

Reasons for signing

  • Let's do our part and keep the planet habitable
  • I'm working to get Harvard University to divest and I think that college prep schools worldwide have an opportunity to influence colleges and universities everywhere.
  • I met one of your alumni leaders at The People's Climate March in NYC. We're committed to seeing the schools we love divest from fossil fuels. The fact that that there are so many clean energy opportunities that are delivering impressive returns to investors is evidence that divestment and financial growth go hand-in-hand. Great academic institutions have a responsibility to protect the assets of their constituents and the greatest asset of all is the planet.

Even today, I have been told anthropogenic Climate Change is uncertain by a form director.
Another stated he would not forward the email since it is "political" in nature.
He was right about half that comment- it is about nature.
Folks, Climate Change isn't just happening to the Democrats or the Republicans. It's not happening only to the coral reefs or to the Tea Party. This is about all things.

We sent out the message you will find on FaceBook
( www.facebook.com/SPSCaresAboutClimateChange) to all the form directors by today.
Hopefully, we will see a rise in signatures!
