Divest University of Oregon From Fossil Fuels

Divest University of Oregon From Fossil Fuels

University of Oregon must divest from direct ownership and any commingled funds that include fossil fuel public equities and corporate bonds with 5 years.

Why is this important?

As a public university with a national platform, news that University of Oregon has divested from fossil fuels would resound at other campuses. This move would emphasize University of Oregon's commitment to the future of its students and to the sustainability of the planet.

University Of Oregon, Johnson Lane, Eugene, OR

Reasons for signing

  • Divesting from fossil fuels is a smart and critical step towards lowering emissions, not only because those fuels cause climate change directly, but because of the enormous political influence of the fossil fuel industry. I don't know if the UO has investments in this area, someone should try to find out. . .
  • If we have the opportunity and capability to divest ourselves from fossil fuels, why shouldn't we? As humans we should want a more sustainable planet, and if we can send a resounding message this way then why wouldn't I sign the damn thing?
  • Because it's about time.
