Divest Wells College from Fossil Fuels

Divest Wells College's holdings from fossil fuels as soon as possible. Our current president is unfortunately leaving after this semester, but there's still time for one last positive change to our community.

Why is this important?

Humans have disrupted earth’s natural system of protective atmospheric layers by putting excessive amounts of fossil fuels into the atmosphere, causing a greenhouse effect, also known as “climate change.” Scientific evidence shows how we have altered the earth's natural cycle of change, leading to an extreme climate change. The globe is currently hotter than it has been in over 600,000 years. We've seen the results in melting polar ice, rising sea levels, ocean acidification, dying coral reefs, flooding, drought, and extreme weather events. We need to take responsibility for our race, and do something immediately. Every person really can make a difference. People are often misguided or uninformed about the implications of our actions, and what we can do to help. America’s universities have a duty to shape public debate on energy policy and climate change. By divesting from fossil fuels, we can have a positive impact on the situation, especially if we reinvest in companies that are sustainable, or renewable energy.
