Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges drop Brittish Gas

This campaign has ended.

We are calling on the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) to stop being a 'green-wash' and break their ties with British Gas.

EAUC have previously accepted sponsorship from British Gas for their national conference where environment managers from UK universities and colleges come to discus how to make our institutions more sustainable. We believe they have dropped them as a sponsor after our concerns were raised, but are continuing to include them as a 'Gold' member.

We call on the EAUC to:
- Publicly announce it will no longer accept sponsorship from British Gas.
- Drop British Gas as a 'Gold' member.

Why is this important?

British Gas and it's Parent company are not 'green' they are major fossil fuel players, even backing UK fracking firm Cuadrilla.

There is about three times more fossil fuel in reserves that could be exploited today than is compatible with 2C, and over 10 times more fossil fuel resource that could be exploited in future.

Gas isn't green. Gas is a fossil fuel; when it burns it releases carbon, just like oil and coal. New power stations planned for the UK will be allowed to emit nine times the carbon limit recommended by the Government’s own Committee on Climate Change. Globally 80% of potential shale gas (fracked gas) must remain unburned.
