Lake Forest College Fossil Fuel Divestment
We are asking for a freeze in new investments in fossil fuels in our school's portfolio within the next year and total divestment from any positions in fossil fuel companies within the next 5 years.
Why is this important?
A successful Lake Forest College divestment campaign will empower and embolden students, current and future, to make real changes in a system ill suited to planetary stability.
As these companies ride a bubble that is bound to burst, hard, it will allow us to secure a sound financial position well into the future for our school and soon to be alma mater as well as allow us to enjoy a safe ecology into our lives and our children's.
It will allow us to build a future for our world in which the energy of our systems derives not from racking our planet for the last remaining bits of oil at any cost, but one in which the energy drawn for current human enterprise does not harm the next generation's same ability.
