Divest Fremont from Fossil FuelsAs a city on the San Francisco Bay, rising sea levels will endanger property, transportation, and community. As a diverse city, our citizens have family and friends around the world, and they will be impacted, too. No one is immune from the impacts of climate change. It's wrong to wreck the climate. It's wrong to profit from wrecking the climate. Fremont should divest from the number one industry that is wrecking climates world-wide: the fossil fuel industry. Divestment from fossil fuel companies will: a) drive public awareness of the incalculable damage being done by the fossil fuel industry as it generates huge immediate profits in exchange for an uninhabitable future; b) build public recognition of the urgent need to drastically and rapidly reduce humanity’s dependence on fossil fuels; c) call widespread attention to the consequences of continuing a “business as usual” approach to extracting, marketing and burning fossil fuel; d) lead to inspiring an urgent, accelerated and popular commitment to leave untapped 80% of the known carbon reserves, while developing renewable energy resources capable of meeting humanity’s needs – thus making it possible that life as we have known it might continue on earth. Divest Benton County from Fossil FuelsFor the last century we've been burning fossil fuels at a much faster rate than the planet produced them. Now that the easy half is gone, the remaining sources will be more difficult to extract and much messier. In the name of quick profits, big petroleum corporations have driven us into a serious pollution problem. Maybe we should remember how to live more like humans have historically lived and leave whatever fossil fuels remain for our great-grandchildren. The corporations won't back off until we insist.143 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Vernon Huffman

Divest Loudoun County From Fossil FuelsThe fossil fuel industry spends investments on research to extract more fossil fuels, when they really need to stay in the ground if we are going to avoid catastrophic climate change. In addition, they spend lots of that money on influencing politicians to support their subsidies and priorities. It's time to stop giving them our tax dollars to support their dirty work. Finally, it is an important risk management strategy to get our county's investments out of the carbon bubble.46 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Andrea McGimsey

Divest Northwich from Fossil Fuels by 2020We're all part of institutions that ought to be looking out for the public good, from city and state governments to religious institutions to other kinds of charities and non-profits. Most of these institutions invest money in stocks and bonds, and have a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. Even as extreme weather events like Hurricane Sandy, Somerset floods, Australian, Californian and African droughts and Australian fires threaten to overwhelm local budgets, government and inter-governmental inaction to solve this crisis is all but stalled. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry. The bottom line is this: divestment, which proved a significant tool in ridding South Africa of Apartheid, is the only moral choice for institutions that care about the planet and its residents. Solving the climate crisis is the only practical choice for governments that care about their solvency.41 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Paul Mathias

Divest Macon from Fossil FuelsWe would like a transparent review of city investments to ensure a conscientious use of tax payer funds. Divesting city and county funds away from fossil fuels sends a message of unity, hope, and a pledge of responsible government in the present to ensure a healthy future for all of the children of central Georgia and the world.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kelly Stefano

Divest Hornsby Shire from Fossil Fuel InvestmentIf we continue to mine fossil fuels we are on a sure path to catastrophic climate change. this will be disastrous for the planet. If we can reduce the level of investment in fossil fuels then we reduce the power these industries have over our governments which will lead to effective regulations in carbon emissions. In addition, these industries will be forced to look elsewhere, such as to renewable energy sources, to make their profits. Divestment of fossil fuel stocks can lead to investment in renewables which will become more profitable as result.20 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kirsten Cowley

DIVEST MONTANA FROM FOSSIL FUELS!Montana state government should be looking into what is best for the public good. What is best for public good is halting climate change. They have a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. Even as extreme weather events like continual drought and wildfires that just keep getting worse threatening to overwhelm local budgets, federal inaction to solve this crisis is all but stalled. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry.119 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Lauren S
