New England Aquarium Fossil Fuel Divestment PetitionThe New England Aquarium is a vital institution in our community that works to educate the public about climate change and its impacts. As patrons of the New England Aquarium, we are proud of its strong commitment to combating climate change. We encourage the aquarium to take the next step as a role model by becoming the first aquarium in the world to divest from fossil fuels. The fossil fuel divestment movement has grown rapidly over the last five years to undermine the destructive influence of the fossil fuel industry, which disproportionately burdens the health, livelihoods, and lifespans of people of color and low-income people. Through divesting, the aquarium will further its mission to support the community, to act as a leader, and to create a sustainable blue planet for all people and marine wildlife.31 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Baelyn Duffy

Vi vill se fossilfria pensionspengar"If it's wrong to wreck the climate, then it's wrong to profit from that wreckage"!

Divest the Nobel Foundation from fossil fuelsWe love Nobel. We love how it’s awards celebrate the greatest achievements of, and for, mankind. But there is one thing we do not love; its investments in the fossil fuel industry, which are driving climate change. We therefore call on the Nobel Foundation to commit to divest from fossil fuels. Why is this important? Climate change is the greatest challenge humanity has encountered. Warming in excess of 1.5°C will have catastrophic consequences [1]. In order to have a chance of staying below this temperature rise, 80% of known fossil fuel reserves must stay in the ground [2]. The fossil fuel industry currently holds vast carbon reserves which if burnt would result in emissions 5 times larger than that which is scientifically deemed to be safe [2]. All available evidence suggests that fossil fuel companies intend to burn the reserves within their control. In addition, companies such as Shell are actively trying to discover new reserves, often in environmentally sensitive regions. If it is wrong to damage the world we live in, then it is wrong to profit from that damage. Responsible investors should no longer be profiting from the destructive activities of these companies. And especially not the Nobel Foundation, which aims to highlight work done for the benefit of mankind. Fossil fuel investments are becoming increasingly risky as the cost of extraction increases and international treaties restrict the use of fossil fuels [2]. Not only does it make moral sense not to invest in the destruction of our planet, it also makes financial sense. By divesting from fossil fuels, the Nobel Foundation will join institutions such as Stockholm University and city and The Rockefeller Brothers Fund amongst many others [3], in leading by example to help create a sustainable future for our world. End BP Sponsorship of the Royal Shakespeare CompanyThe Royal Shakespeare Company is one of Britain's best-loved theatre companies. But the RSC's reputation is being tarnished by its decision to allow oil giant BP to sponsor its £5 ticket scheme for 16-25 year olds. BP's extraction of fossil fuels around the world is driving dangerous climate change and causing toxic oil spills. The company works with repressive regimes, fuels conflict and blocks clean energy alternatives. 16-25-year-old theatregoers should be able to see the plays they love without helping promote a company that is putting their futures at risk. BP provides less than 1% of the RSC's income. Other arts organisations, including Tate and Edinburgh International Festival, have moved away from oil sponsorship following pressure from artists, scientists and campaigners. The theatre company has the funds to do the right thing without putting the £5 ticket scheme – or any jobs – at risk. It's time the RSC brought the curtain down on its relationship with one of the world's most polluting companies. Many theatre stars have already endorsed a crowdfunded ethical alternative to the BP-sponsored scheme - Fossil Free £5 Tickets. So join Sir Mark Rylance, Vanessa Redgrave, Andrew Garfield, Emma Thompson, Maxine Peake, Tamsin Greig, Caryl Churchill, Kristin Scott Thomas, Simon McBurney, Miriam Margolyes, Zoë Wanamaker, Vivienne Westwood, Jasper Britton and many others in calling on the RSC to find a more ethical alternative to oil sponsorship. This petition is being launched by Culture Unstained, a member of the Art Not Oil coalition, with support from Warwick Students' Union, the National Union of Students and People & Planet. To find out more about the Fossil Free £5 Ticket scheme, including getting hold of a ticket if you are aged 16-25 or donating to the crowdfunder, see cultureunstained.org/fossilfreetix154 of 200 Signatures

The People's Pension - Go Fossil FreeInvesting in the fossil fuel industry risks pension fund members' money as fossil fuel assets increasingly risk becoming stranded assets. The urgent global climate action needed will increasingly mean fossil fuels will be unburnable and need to stay in the ground. It also makes no sense for us to be saving for our future using investments that fundamentally threaten that future and security.19 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chayley Collis

Divest Albuquerque Academy from Fossil FuelsAs the top college preparatory school in New Mexico, the Albuquerque Academy is educating the leadership of the future, our children. Yet by supporting their educational mission with fossil fuel monies, the school is taking away that future from its students. Removing fossil fuels in all ways from the Academy's investment portfolio sends a clear message to students and parents that the Academy cares about the world its students face and is willing to take real action to make that world a more hopeful place. Conversely, failing to take action is equivalent to condemning the school's graduates to a future of misery — subverting the education those graduates have worked for and families have paid for. We hope that the Academy sees the sense in supporting its role as a world-class educational institution by not contributing to a future in which education will not matter.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Anker

Divest Museum of Science and Industry From Fossil FuelsThe Museum earns investment income from companies that profit from the extraction of fossil fuels, whose role in energy production is a major contributor to global warming. This undermines public confidence in the sincerity and validity of the Museum's programs for transmitting scientific knowledge. The other major Chicago science museum, the Field Museum, announced on November 13, 2015 that it had divested from fossil fuels some time ago. It is long past time for the Museum of Science and Industry to do so as well.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Fabrice Smieliauskas

Divest Hartlepool From Fossil FuelsLocal councils invest over £14 billion in the fossil fuel industry. We know that to stop catastrophic climate change we have to keep fossil fuels in the ground and transition quickly towards a clean renewable economy. 350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. Accelerating arctic warming and other early climate impacts have led scientists to conclude that we are already above the safe zone at our current 390ppm, and that unless we are able to rapidly return to below 350 ppm this century, we risk reaching tipping points and irreversible impacts such as the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and major methane releases from increased permafrost melt. It’s imperative that our councils and pension funds break ties with this sector and divest from fossil fuels. By doing so, they can take necessary action to protect fund members’ pensions from risky investments, and join hundreds of public institutions worldwide in taking a stand against an industry which is causing climate chaos and endangering our future.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Christopher Pattison

CalSTRS: Divest from Big OilThe Board of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) has made several important decisions to address the effects of global warming over the last year. It divested from some thermal coal companies and initiated a $2.5 billion low-carbon index fund. It has also conducted ground-breaking discussions about the nature of fiduciary duty — the fund’s responsibility to protect the welfare of its members. This discussion has expanded the definition of fiduciary duty from the usual, purely financial terms to include a consideration of the risk of climate change. But the Board has not gone far enough. Even the numerous good-faith efforts that CalSTRS has made, over a period of many years, to engage constructively with oil and gas companies on climate risk have been unfruitful. Big Oil has not responded in any meaningful way. Therefore, it’s time for the CalSTRS Board to abandon a policy of shareholder engagement. Friendly dialogue and well-meaning resolutions with oil companies have produced no significant results. Despite decades of sustained shareholder efforts on climate change, ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Shell have continued to flout international climate agreements, spread misinformation, and lobby against climate progress. It is time to take decisive action: to divest from all fossil fuels by 2020. Little time remains to avert catastrophe — both financial and environmental. Continued investment in the fossil fuel industry exposes CalSTRS to the risk of the deflating carbon bubble: 80 percent of coal, oil, and gas reserves are unburnable (and therefore ultimately worthless) if we are to adhere to the under-2°C Paris climate agreement target. More than 190 countries have pledged to meet the 2° target. They recognize that climate chaos would not only endanger public welfare, it would disrupt the global economy, putting all of CalSTRS’ assets at risk. Under these circumstances, divestment is the appropriate action for the Board to take as a prudent fiduciary and a cautious investment manager. Divest Gareth Morgan Investments KiwisaverPeople who invest in Gareth Morgan Kiwisaver care for their futures. But those futures will be bleak indeed if fossil fuels continue to be extracted and burnt at the rate at which they are today. Kiwis love our biodiversity and we love our lifestyle. We want others to have a fair go, and we don't want to see vast fortunes being made by the few at the expense of increased droughts, desertification, floods, famines and wars. Those of us who are lucky enough to have a little money to invest in our future, want to invest it wisely. There is no economic sustainability without environmental sustainability. Let us have the choice to invest in a future without the worst excesses of global climate change. Listen to ordinary Kiwis- divest fossil fuel investments now.108 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Megan Owen
