- Divest the Hebrew University from Fossil FuelsWe need to take responsability on the future of our life in this country (Israel) and on this planet. We cannot continue with the current energy policy and use fossil fuels as if there's no climate change and there's no limits of use of this resource. We must divest, not only for the future but also for the present. People all over the world and also here, in Israel, are damaged severely by the pollution that is caused by the methods of energy production from fossil fuels. The Hebrew Uni. claims to be the leading University in Israel, it is time for the University to take a stand and join the movement.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Green Course Hebrew University
ENGLISH: If we are to reach the global climate goals agreed upon by scientists, 80 % of all coal, oil and gas need to remain unexploited. Hence, we have enormous amounts of money which are counted as assets by the fossil industry but cannot actually be realized – a “fossil bubble”. Investment in fossil fuel is unethical, unsustainable and uneconomical. Above all it is jeopardizing the future of today’s youth! As Uppsala University students, we want to show our support for responsible investment of the money that is financing our education! The university has taken some steps in working for a more sustainable development. We would like to draw attention to the fact that financial investments are also of major importance for the values that the university communicates and the activities it supports. This issue has been highlighted at a number of universities and colleges in Sweden, and is part of a larger international campaign. We would like to see UU take the lead in this development! Students can, and should, influence their university to move in a more sustainable direction!1,617 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Fanny Sannerud
- University of British Columbia: Go Fossil Free!Climate change is accelerating. We are witnessing the increasing impacts of a warming planet more and more consistently; in this last year alone our country experienced record-breaking heat, droughts, and hurricanes, which impacted hundreds of thousands of people and cost our country hundreds of billions of dollars. Hurricane Sandy alone caused $50bn in damages. Experts agree that global warming caused by humans burning fossil fuels will continue to accelerate and intensify these tragic climate disasters. The scientific consensus is clear and overwhelming; we cannot safely burn even half of global fossil-fuel reserves without dangerously warming the planet for several thousand years. As public pressure to confront climate change builds, we call on the University of British Columbia to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies, and to divest within five years from direct ownership and from any commingled funds that include fossil-fuel public equities and corporate bonds. We believe such action on behalf of the University of British Columbia will not only be a sound decision for our institution's financial portfolio, but also for the wellbeing of its current and future graduating classes, who deserve the opportunity to graduate with a future not defined by climate chaos.102 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Gordon Katic

- Divest CCC from Fossil Fuels!Federal inaction to solve this crisis is all but stalled. Cities have enormous untapped assets and political strength that can be organized for a better future investment. Local Actions Move the World • Earth's average temperature has risen by 1.4°F in the past 100 years The decade from 2000 to 2010 was the warmest on record Recent estimates say global sea level could rise more than 3 meters . • Higher heat means impacts and health risks to our vulnerable communities • Bigger storms means more stress on already aging infrastructure • Local Government leaders serve to oversee and manage the public good. Cities have a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s having a negative impact on our future, and reinvest in solutions. • Extreme weather events like Hurricane Sandy threaten to overwhelm local budgets • Heat Related deaths impact our local emergency services. • Rising tides and flooding impact and already failing local government infrastructure. • The cost of local government Insurance premiums continue to rise pending the impacts cities are feeling from a changing climate As of May 2013, more than 100 U.S. cities have signed a resolution to divest Will your City join the team?I visit gofossilfree.org to get started62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Contra Costa County Climate Leaders
- Divest City of Westminster Borough from Fossil FuelsThe 33 London local authorities’ pension funds are investing £1,882 million in fossil fuel companies, averaging just over 6% of their total pension investments. Westminster with 7.8% of its total pension invested in fossil fuels is among the 10 London councils with the highest percentage investments. Why Divest? Local authorities in the UK led the way on divesting from apartheid in the 1980s. They can do so again to challenge catastrophic climate change. Moral Argument - Financial Argument – Public Benefit Argument Pensions are for our and our families’ future. But that future is threatened by fossil fuel extraction. It is also a financial argument. When governments finally take climate change seriously and legislate to leave fossil fuels in the ground, shares in oil, gas and coal will become worthless. Funds which don’t invest in fossil fuels often perform as well or better than fossil-fuel heavy funds, so divestment does not mean that existing pension funds lose out. And it is a public benefit argument. By investing this capital into renewable energy, public transport and social housing, local government could create jobs and boost local economies, while protecting pensions.53 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alex Horn
- Divest from Fossil Fuels: Unitarian Church of South AustraliaIn the interest of integrity, our Church's shareholdings need to be consistent with our principles. With climate change threatening our planet so severely, continuing to profit from the production of fossil fuels is inconsistent with our commitment to "respect the interdependent web of all existence" (our 7th principle). Given the devastating impact climate change is predicted to have on communities, particularly the poorest, profiting from fossil fuels is also arguably inconsistent with our 1st Principle - the inherent worth and dignity of every person; our 2nd Principle - justice, equity and compassion in human relations; and our 6th Principle - the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all. In addition, there are strong financial arguments for divestment given that the pace at which the world is moving towards renewables leaves question marks over the long term prospects of fossil fuel producing companies.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Freesmith
- Divest the Episcopal Church from Fossil Fuels"It is wrong to profit from wrecking the planet." - Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org The Episcopal Church must stand behind its marks of mission and be a part of the solution and not continue to support companies that contribute to climate change. The global crisis of climate change requires immediate action. We cannot address global poverty without also addressing environmental degradation caused by increasing carbon dioxide levels. Without any alternative options for energy, we in the Episcopal Church are all complicit, but unless we invest in renewable sources of energy, we will be forever in the situation of having to more so by supporting a company with our investments. The influence and size of the Episcopal Church makes it a prime candidate to be a leader in the domestic and global environmental movements. Let's follow the lead of the Anglican Church and divest from fossil fuels!11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Perry Hodgkins Jones
- Divest Albuquerque Academy from Fossil FuelsAs the top college preparatory school in New Mexico, the Albuquerque Academy is educating the leadership of the future, our children. Yet by supporting their educational mission with fossil fuel monies, the school is taking away that future from its students. Removing fossil fuels in all ways from the Academy's investment portfolio sends a clear message to students and parents that the Academy cares about the world its students face and is willing to take real action to make that world a more hopeful place. Conversely, failing to take action is equivalent to condemning the school's graduates to a future of misery — subverting the education those graduates have worked for and families have paid for. We hope that the Academy sees the sense in supporting its role as a world-class educational institution by not contributing to a future in which education will not matter.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Anker
