WILL ONTARIO TEACHERS GIVE TARSANDS OIL A FAILING GRADE?
TAKE THE PLUNGE....LET'S ALL JUMP IN....AND HELP REDUCE OUR CARBON PAW PRINT - LET'S WEAN OURSELVES OFF OF FOSSIL FUEL
Please help us reach a possible 330,000 Ontario teachers (retired and active) and help them give the boot to the fund managers of their mighty $117 BILLION dollar pension fund. We ask that they immediately freeze any new investments in fossil fuels. And further, that the fund divest over the next five years, the approximately $ 17 BILLION currently invested in the carbon producing, planet altering fossil fuel industry, and invest instead in exciting new green energy projects like wind and solar power. Not only will productive and long lasting jobs be provided to the students of those teachers, but the fund providing for their retirement will become sustainable and pro-active.

Why is this important?
Teachers are thought leaders, nurturing the next generation of citizens who will be responsible for life on our commonly shared planet. Working together, teachers can demand as much as $17 billion of THEIR pension funds be re-directed to green energy projects that will employ their students and reduce carbon emissions in Canada dramatically.
Teachers encourage such ethics in their students; now it's time to walk the talk. Each signature will help teachers re-direct those mighty funds in new and exciting ways that will have significant impact on Canada's carbon contribution to the Canadian environment and help give us a safer, greener country, and planet.
How it will be delivered
Am the widow of an Ontario teacher, now living in BC. Moved here to continue writing in the field of environmental awareness. Sadly, my pension comes from the very fund targeted above. I imagine the petition best delivered by students to the Toronto, Ontario headquarters of the OTPP. Offers a nice photo op - youth speaking to the old guard. Maybe Gold Medalist, Dara Howell, of Huntsville, Ontario could be convinced to deliver the goods with a team of students. She sure did in Russia!
