  • Go Fossil Free TDSB
As public pressure to confront climate change builds, we call on the TDSB to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies, and to divest within five years from direct ownership and from any commingled funds that include fossil-fuel public equities and corporate bonds. We believe such action on behalf of our school board will not only be a sound decision for our board's financial portfolio, but also for the wellbeing of the students who deserve the opportunity to grow up with a future not defined by climate chaos.

  • Invest in Happiness, Not Fossil Fuels
Our beloved UTEP is known for its unique Bhutanese-inspired architecture, a nod to the small Himalayan nation of Bhutan, where Gross National Happiness (GNH) is the guiding principle. Bhutan's GNH emphasizes environmental conservation, sustainable development, and public health in the pursuit of collective well-being. As UTEP students and community members, we are proud of our campus's distinct identity. However, we are deeply concerned about UTEP's continued investment in fossil fuel industries and its support for fracking research. It's time for UTEP to align its financial priorities with the Bhutanese values that have shaped its architecture. We, the undersigned, call on UTEP to: 1. Divest fully from fossil fuel investments, including stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments tied to the fossil fuel industry. 2. Cease funding and support for all fracking research projects, and redirect those resources towards clean energy and sustainable development research. 3. Publicly commit to environmental conservation, sustainable development, and public health as guiding principles in line with Bhutan's Gross National Happiness philosophy.

  • McMaster University: Divest From Fossil Fuels
We are in a climate crisis NOW. Every dollar that remains invested in fossil fuel companies and the dirty banks that fund them makes it worse. We, the students, faculty, and staff of McMaster and members of the Hamilton community, are calling on the university to stop using students' tuition to fund the destruction of our future. As of 2022, McMaster has $30.4 million invested in the Carbon Underground 200: the top 200 largest fossil fuel reserve owners in the world. These investments are impossible to reconcile with the university’s supposed commitment to sustainability, reconciliation, and creating a “brighter world.” On top of this, McMaster is building four natural gas-powered generators next to Coote’s Drive, on environmentally sensitive swampland. These generators will raise our carbon emissions by 415 tonnes for every 60 hours of operation, and McMaster estimates that the project will take at least 13 years to pay for itself [1]. Cost-effective clean energy alternatives exist NOW [2]. We see through the university’s attempts to justify environmentally destructive policies. The notion that we still need fossil fuel investments to fund clean energy projects is a lie. We have tried to send letters, provide written testimonies with all the evidence, and engage in discussion, but we have been met with indifference and empty statements. The administration’s irresponsibility is pushing us to take more drastic action. As of March 20th, members of the McMaster Divestment Project are GOING ON HUNGER STRIKE, putting our bodies on the line to try and ensure a livable future for everyone. We demand that the university protect the future of its students by: 1. Committing to total divestment from fossil fuels by 2025 and reinvestment in clean energy with full public disclosure. 2. Removing the four gas-fired generators at Coote’s Drive. We will remain on strike until these demands are met.

  • End fossil fuels in DRC
Mettre fin aux energy fossil Urgent call First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone for standing in solidarity with campaigns across Africa fighting for climate justice. With your support, we support each other to continue to defend an Africa without fossil fuels. 🙏 On April 8, 2022 – just months after signing a $500 million deal with donors at COP26 in Glasgow, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has approved a plan to auction off 16 new oil blocks[1], including some that are located in the Congo Basin - the world's second largest rainforest and one of the world's largest carbon sinks and most environmentally sensitive areas. Opening the DRC's forests to oil drilling would be an unimaginable disaster for the climate, biodiversity, human rights and local livelihoods. This is why activists in the DRC are calling on Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi to ban this toxic auction. Can you add your name to their petition?

  • Stop investing Brighton and Hove's Pension Fund in fossil fuels
East Sussex County Council (ESCC) runs the local government pension scheme covering Brighton, Hove and East Sussex: the East Sussex Pension Fund. The Fund currently has over £60 million of local people’s pensions invested the giant oil and gas companies which are driving the climate crisis. Brighton and Hove’s population makes up a third of the population of East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. And Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) and its employees pay a significant proportion (31.9%) of the annual contributions to the Fund. BHCC has repeatedly called for the Fund to stop investing in fossil fuels (oil, coal & gas).Yet because it has no representation on the Fund's decision-making body (the East Sussex Pension Committee), which is made up entirely of East Sussex County Councillors, it has no say in how the Fund is invested. We the undersigned therefore call on ESCC to grant BHCC adequate representation on the East Sussex Pension Committee so that it can ensure that these climate-destroying and financially risky investments are eliminated from the Fund.
