Fossil Fuel Divestment

This is where you can launch campaigns to divest the institutions in your extended community: a large pension manager, the local zoo, your high school. The possibilities for fossil fuel divestment—and divestment campaigns—are virtually endless. We all live within a network of interests and affiliations, many of which are invested in fossil fuel interests in one way or another.

  • WILL ONTARIO TEACHERS GIVE TARSANDS OIL A FAILING GRADE?
Teachers are thought leaders, nurturing the next generation of citizens who will be responsible for life on our commonly shared planet. Working together, teachers can demand as much as $17 billion of THEIR pension funds be re-directed to green energy projects that will employ their students and reduce carbon emissions in Canada dramatically. Teachers encourage such ethics in their students; now it's time to walk the talk. Each signature will help teachers re-direct those mighty funds in new and exciting ways that will have significant impact on Canada's carbon contribution to the Canadian environment and help give us a safer, greener country, and planet.

  • Divest Fairfax County from Fossil Fuels!
Our local government has a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. We can not count on the federal government, even as extreme weather events impact communities all around us. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry. The bottom line is this: divestment is the only moral choice for governments that care about their citizens. Solving the climate crisis is the only practical choice for governments that care about their solvency. It's time to divest from fossil fuels now!

  • DIVEST WEST MICHIGAN from FOSSIL FUELS
Our friends, pension fund managers, churches & local governments have a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. We can not count on the federal government, even as extreme weather events like Hurricane Sandy or other area storms will overwhelm local budgets. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry. The bottom line is this: divestment is the only moral choice for all people, churches, colleges & those local governments that care about their citizens. Solving the climate crisis is the only practical choice for governments that care about their solvency. It's time to divest from fossil fuels now!

  • Divest Benton County from Fossil Fuels
For the last century we've been burning fossil fuels at a much faster rate than the planet produced them. Now that the easy half is gone, the remaining sources will be more difficult to extract and much messier. In the name of quick profits, big petroleum corporations have driven us into a serious pollution problem. Maybe we should remember how to live more like humans have historically lived and leave whatever fossil fuels remain for our great-grandchildren. The corporations won't back off until we insist.
