• Willamette University: Go Fossil Free!
"Not unto ourselves alone are we born." Our motto speaks of large responsibility for combating climate change and acting for the greater good . We are witnessing the increasing impacts of a warming planet more and more consistently; in this last year alone our country experienced record-breaking heat, droughts, and hurricanes, which impacted hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Many who have never had a carbon footprint & contributed to global warming are experiencing the worst effects. The scientific consensus is clear and overwhelming; we cannot safely burn even half of global fossil-fuel reserves without dangerously warming the planet for several thousand years. As public and atmospheric pressure to confront climate change builds, we call on you and the board of trustees to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies, and to divest within five years from direct ownership and from any commingled funds that include fossil-fuel public equities and corporate bonds. We believe this action will not only be a sound decision for our institution's financial portfolio, but also for the chance for all future graduating classes to have a foreseeable, stable future.

Climate change is accelerating. We are witnessing the increasing impacts of a warming planet more and more consistently; in this last year alone our country experienced record-breaking heat, droughts, and hurricanes, which impacted hundreds of thousands of people and cost our country hundreds of billions of dollars. Hurricane Sandy alone caused $50bn in damages. Experts agree that global warming caused by humans burning fossil fuels will continue to accelerate and intensify these tragic climate disasters. The scientific consensus is clear and overwhelming; we cannot safely burn even half of global fossil-fuel reserves without dangerously warming the planet for several thousand years. As public pressure to confront climate change builds, we call on Arizona State University to immediately freeze any new investment in fossil-fuel companies, and to divest within five years from direct ownership and from any commingled funds that include fossil-fuel public equities and corporate bonds. We believe such action on behalf of Arizona State University will not only be a sound decision for our institution's financial portfolio, but also for the wellbeing of its current and future graduating classes, who deserve the opportunity to graduate with a future not defined by climate chaos.

  • Divest the City of Evanston government from fossil fuels
Climate change is already hurting people, plants and animals, particularly those already most vulnerable and least likely to have contributed to greenhouse gases. The purpose of this petition is to act on our values and do it stronger by doing it collectively. We can make a concrete change and send a message as Evanstonians through changing our City investments. Let's take action now to ensure a wonderful, livable world for people and all species for generations to come.

Global Climate Change is real and is happening now. People here in Bisbee are being effected negatively now. At the same time people here in Bisbee are investing in their own and others suffering due to all the ways climate change effects us. It is no longer a question of the environment, it is a question of survival. If we don't stop global climate change now, our future and our childrens future will forever be worse. • Divest Hobart from Fossil Fuels!
Our local government has a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. We can not count on the federal government, even as extreme weather events like the record rain fall in the Duluth area last Spring overwhelm local budgets. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry. The bottom line is this: divestment is the only moral choice for governments that care about their citizens. Solving the climate crisis is the only practical choice for governments that care about their solvency. It's time to divest from fossil fuels now!

This is important because if we keep on using these fossil fuels, they will cause global warming to the point that this planet will be unlivable. You saw Sandy it was bad enough, imagine the future storms as they increase in intensity , the safety and survival of your children will be at risk. The most prestigious scientists are in agreement that global warming is for real. So let's all take steps to save our planet with our children and all living things in it.

  • Divest Edina from Fossil Fuels
Our home city of Edina, MN and her residents are directly and imminently at risk of harm, physically, financially, and culturally from the disastrous consequences of global warming. It is in our immediate power as citizens to change the course of climate history by refunding the harmful practices of the fossil fuel industry.

  • Divest Takoma Park From Fossil Fuels
Most people would probably choose a clean, sustainable, non-destructive energy source if they could, don't you think? Really. Would people insist on driving gasoline powered cars if there were an infrastructure built around electric battery operated vehicles? Would they choose to destroy our mountains and poison our water for coal and naturel gas, if they could keep the porch light on with energy captured from the wind, sun and tides? Right now, fossil fuel energy provides our only choice. That's not good enough. We need a healthy choice and there's only one way to get it. We have to demand it.

  • Divest Schenectady County from Fossil Fuels
We're all part of institutions that ought to be looking out for the public good, from city and state governments to religious institutions to other kinds of charities and non-profits. Most of these institutions invest money in stocks and bonds, and have a responsibility to divest from an industry that’s destroying our future, and reinvest in solutions to climate change. Even as extreme weather events like Hurricane Sandy, floods, droughts and fires threaten to overwhelm local budgets, federal inaction to solve this crisis is all but stalled. We have the solutions, but we won’t see any political progress on the issue until we can weaken the power of the fossil fuel industry.
