Saint Joseph Health Fossil Fuel Divestment

As members of communities served by the St. Joseph Health System, we the undersigned call on them to reaffirm their vision and values by immediately ceasing new investment in fossil fuels and selling off existing fossil fuel holdings within five years.

Why is this important?

Fossil fuels threaten the future of our planet and pollute the air, causing hundreds of thousands of cases of childhood asthma and killing tens of thousands of Americans each year. The industry spends billions to prevent adoption of policies for clean energy and clean air. Hospitals and health systems should draw the line and refuse to profit from or lend their financial support for these destructive practices. Divestment by healing institutions helps develop the social consensus that this must stop and weaken the political power of Big Oil.

How it will be delivered

We will deliver the signatures in person.

Lubbock, TX and Eureka, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Mission Viejo and Orange California

We have 800 signatures from communities served by St Joseph Health. Setting up meetings with local hospital boards. It would be great to have 1000 by the time we sit down with them.

We just passed 400 signatures. Lots of folks in Humboldt and Sonoma counties want to see this happen.

We have reached our first milestone: 100 signatures on our divestment petition, with signers from 7 of the 12 California communities served by the St Joseph Health System: Eureka, Santa Rosa, Napa, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Mission Viejo. Many thanks to all the folks who have joined the campaign.
